The Center for Computational Research in Clean Energy Technologies was established in the academic year 2013–14 and is housed in the Computational Mechanics Lab of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering (SCTCE). Envisioned as an interdisciplinary hub, the center focuses on advancing clean and sustainable energy technologies through high-fidelity computational modeling. It aims to foster cutting-edge research in energy systems while contributing to the broader goal of environmental sustainability.
Using a range of advanced simulation tools and software platforms such as Abaqus, Hyperworks, Pro-E, LAMMPS, and ENVI-met, the center addresses complex engineering challenges in diverse focus areas. These include sorption-based hydrogen storage systems, building energy optimization, phase change materials for thermal regulation, and solar thermal and photovoltaic technologies. These research domains are strategically selected to support the development of efficient, scalable, and clean energy solutions.
Since its inception, the center has produced several high-quality research publications, with ongoing studies expected to result in further impactful outputs. It also serves as a collaborative platform for students, faculty, and external partners, facilitating interdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange in clean energy. The center encourages collaborations with premier institutions and industry stakeholders, further enhancing its contribution to national energy goals.
The core research team comprises Dr. Mohan G. from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Dr. Anup V. Thomas from the Department of Applied Sciences.
