Road Safety Projects and Training (RSPT)


In order to reduce the increasing number of road accidents in Kerala, Kerala Road Safety Authority (KRSA) has come up with several awareness and training programmes. With SCTCE-Road Safety project and Training (RSPT) wing is conducting “INSIGHT- A Training and Awareness Programme on Road Safety”.


This project aims to provide an extensive training and awareness programme for four different target groups. The training module and lecture sessions were framed with the support of experts from National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (KSCSTE-NATPAC), Motor Vehicle Department (MVD), Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering (SCTCE).

a. Ambulance Drivers: There are several cases reported in the state when a speeding emergency vehicle hit a passing vehicle, causing serious injuries and fatalities on road. The ambulance drivers over speeding and negligence are leading to these accidents. A proper training for ambulance drivers regarding the road safety aspects can reduce such type of accidents. This project aims to conduct 5 training sessions for ambulance drivers.

b. School Bus Drivers: Majority of the school bus drivers are unaware about the rules and regulations to be followed in school buses to ensure students safety. Drunken driving, over speeding like ill habits can lead to accidents. A well trained bus drivers will provide comfort, security and safety for students. This project aims to organize 5 training sessions for school bus drivers.

c. Training/Refresher Programme for Driving School Instructors: Even though the driving school instructors are undergoing training sessions initially, most of them are unaware about the latest updates in driving test and related aspects. A refresher programme with the support of IDTR will help the driving school instructors to enrich their knowledge. The programme also aims at training newly inducted driving instructors. d. Training of Trainers (TOT):Student community is very much keen to social changes and social service activities. By identifying a core group among teachers who are capable to train students about safe driving aspects on roads and traffic rules will help the Govt. machinery to improve the road safety. The project aims to conduct 5 road safety awareness training session to school teachers.

The first Training programme for Ambulance drivers was commenced on 23rdrd February 2023 for Ambulance drivers of different parts of State. The closing ceremony of the first phase of above category was held on 3rd July 2023.
